BENGALURU: The government has extended a regularization scheme for buildings without occupancy certificate (OC) in Bengaluru.
"The buildings which don't have an OC have to register with us for regularization with a penalty. Violators would have to pay a penalty in the form of a 25% higher tariff on energy consumed," energy minister DK Shiva Kumar said after a meeting with energy department officials on Monday.
This, he said, follows a plea from apartment owners, builders and developers. "Those yet to get an OC could also avail of a temporary connection which would be made permanent after getting the certificate," Shiva Kumar added.
OC must for new buildings
For new houses, Shiva Kumar said it's mandatory to have a building plan sanction and occupancy certificate from BBMP/BDA to get a power connection. "The new condition would not be applicable for all housing units with dimension up to 8000 sqft and up to a maximum height of 50ft," he added.
The new rules were issued in as thousands of apartment blocks and houses obtained water, sewage and power connections in Bengaluru without obtaining the OC. 'Gorur won't be another Mandur'
Shiva Kumar, who held talks with residents, seers and people's representatives on Monday to end the stalemate for setting up a garbage processing-cum-power generation plant at Gorur village in Magadi taluk, Ramanagaram district, failed to make headway.
The proposed plant is to be set up by Satarem Enterprises Private Ltd on 27 acres with a capacity to process up to 1000 tonnes garbage from Bengaluru and generate 15MW power. Violent protests erupted at Gorur last November when officials visited the village to survey land for the unit. Shiva Kumar promised that Gorur would not be allowed to be become a dumping yard like Mandur. All environmental issues raised would be addressed, he said.
