Government acquired land for formation of layout

Land losers challenged it in High Court

Bangalore: The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has offered 48.8 per cent of developed sites to persons who had surrendered their lands for the formation of the Nadaprabhu Kempe Gowda Layout in Bangalore.

This was disclosed to the Karnataka High Court by the Government advocate Om Kumar.

The Government made this submission when Justice D.V. Shylendra Kumar was hearing a batch of petitions by several land owners challenging the acquisition of their land by the BDA for the formation of the layout. The petitioners wanted the court to quash the acquisition. They said the acquisition is illogical and smacks of arbitrariness.

The Government, on its part, defended the acquisition. It said the BDA had offered to give 48.8 per cent of developed land to the land owners and this offer cannot be matched even by private developers.

Justice D.V. Shylendra Kumar adjourned further hearing of the case.
