The State government recently paved the way for the groundwork on the Arkavathy Layout to commence, but it could be a long wait ahead for site allottees and land losers.

Sources in the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) say they receive at least 50 calls daily from the land allotees and the land losers, but none are attended to.

“It seems that the BDA top brass has forgotten the common man in their pursuit for the ‘future’ of the City,” said a disgruntled BDA official.

According to the sources, the Engineering staff has failed to prepare the markings for the sites and acquire land for Arkavathy Layout.

“The Engineering Department has refused to make field visits at the layout to form the layout and acquire additional land,” a source said Land acquisition has also reportedly suffered a setback. BDA sources said the Authority was a long way away from forming the layout.

Next couple of days

“Although a Government Order has been issued with regard to the division of the developed land between the BDA and the land losers, the Authority is yet to issue notices to farmers to part with another 1,500 acres of land,” said another source in the BDA.

The actual notification at the time of the formation of the layout was for land measuring 2,750 acres. But, the BDA has been able to acquire only 1,200 acres, with owners of the other 1,550 acres yet to be issued notices.

“The notices are likely to be issued in the next couple of days,” said the source.
Apart from land acquisition, the BDA is also at a loss over the compensation formula. It is learnt that the BDA Board is divided over providing land losers who have already been given compensation, a site measuring 9,650 sqft. “We have not yet decided on the issues of compensation and will have a detailed discussion soon,” sources said.

BDA Commissioner Bharat Lal Meena was unavailable for any clarification on the matter
