My search for beautiful steel doors

Hi , Many of you have been searching for beautiful steel doors, just like I am. I would like to summarize my findings, & I hope it is useful to you.. I welcome any comments & suggestions.

My requirements are:
- Teak wood finish
- Very strong (2-3x stronger than pure teak doors)
- Looks beautiful
- Cost competitive with I Class teak. (so far seems cheaper 15-20k vs 30-40k)
- Good hardware choice (security chain, door-viewer, multiple locks, hidden hinges etc)
- Office/Sales in Bangalore
- Quick response, good customer care

I found the following vendors:

Hormann - german company - has sales in Mumbai, probably deals only with large quantities. They redirected me to Shakti Metdor, Hyd. I contacted their Bangalore office. Doors are very good, pricing is good too. Just when I was ready to order, suddenly the Blr office started asking for VAT/TIN/CST from me (an individual) . They claim that in 3 months time, they will have channel sales and can sell to anyone. http://www.hormann.in & http://www.shaktimetdor.com (Seems Hormann acquired Shakti) Pricing in the 15-20k range. Very good

Pratham Wood from Mumbai - sells what looks like very well made (7 lock points!) , low cost steel door with wood finish - however, we have to travel to Mumbai to view them : http://www.prathamwoods.com/GloGuard-Se ... -Door.aspx I am also not sure whether this is made in India or just imported. Also see http://www.dattadoor.com/ from MH too.

Arishtha from Chennai sells Steel doors - again wood grain & solid - gets Ahlada, Hyd to manufacture the doors and sells them. http://www.arishtha.in/residential.html . They have an office in Bangalore (Palace Guttahalli). I have ordered 7 doors. Installation is performed by them for about 2k/door. So far, the customer service is also very good. Contact blr@arishtha.in I hope the same standard is maintained during delivery, installation and actual use

Everest Industries, Delhi - They refused to sell doors to me in S.India , since they don't sell outside Delhi / North India http://www.everestind.com/products/door ... doors.aspx . The doors look good on the spec sheet though I don't know the price.

http://www.madhuindustries.com/ Seems too slow, cannot even provide an estimate or quotation. (probably keen only for apartment orders in 100's)

Fimen also sells FRP door with a steel sheet insert, though I have found their response terrible (no reply even from CEO , don't provide proper written quotes etc). So I cancelled my plans to explore UPVC window from them and bough LG Hausys

Did you get any price information about any of the doors? I like the garage doors from Horman. Website doesnt have any details

You can try Pacific building materials on Infantry Road, they are closing there operations in Bangalore, might get at better steel doors of very good quality....I have picked few doors (wood) from them last week.

I have placed an order with Arishtha for 7 doors. I don't have the pictures since the door is not here yet. But I have seen the samples in their office. I will post pictures after installation.

If you are in Bangalore, you can contact them for exact price. My main door (3.5' embossed design) cost me approx 18k & other doors (3') cost around 12-15k. Installation is about 2k/door. I think this is far cheaper and better than teak doors.

I also liked doors from Shakti Metdor (Hormann) but the Bangalore office was unable to deliver to individual buyer (they were asking for TIN/VAT numbers which I don;t have). They claim that these issues will be sorted out in 3 months and anyone can buy steel doors from them. The pricing is in the same range as above. They don't have the embossed design, though

Hi aries31 , Thanks for this wonderful thread.

I liked Glo doors from Prathamwood. Before Heera Plywoods , Bvk Iyengar Road was bangalore vendor for these doors but now he has stopped. Still he has these doors in his factory situated in Timberyard layout where we can see these doors. I am planning to visit it this saturday.

Please let me know if someone interested so that we can get a better deal.

I visited Heera plywood factory today.They have following doors (2 doors measuring 42*84)

Qulaity is impressive and look is also very good exactly as shown on website. He is costing 12500/- door.

When i checked with Prathamwood Mumbai , i came to know that GG015 is latest model having better hindges and locks. I am ordering for 4 doors for Main entry , utility , balcony and staircase.

Pros -

Cost - 14000 + 1000 for Transportation
Weight - 75-80 kg
Thichness - 50mm (General wood doors available in market are of 30mm)
Lock - 7 Locks with single key , 3 at main , 2 on top , 2 at bottom
Material - Galvenized Iron

Cons -

Comes in 2 standard sizes 38*84 and 42*84 , No customization in size or color. So need to order before construction starting , later we can not reduce size to fit in opening.

Please let me know if someone else also interested , it will save a bit atleast on transportation. Will place order in another 20days.

Hi Bhushan,

Is this made in India? I have seen similar door at another place and the owner claimed it is from Malaysia. I did not buy then since, any servicing (lost keys, need to replace locks) will be a nightmare. Please check whether the entire lock system can be replaced locally.

just google prathamwood, its mumbai based. they have one more distributor datta enteprise kohlapur but he quoted extra wid his commision.

please let me know if need some help or interested. I need 4 doors, together we can get better deal in transportation nd installation
