Hi all ,:-)

A couple of years back I had seen wardrobes and kitchen shelves made by thin cement partitions of about 1cm thickness. Wood is restricted to doors only.Does anybody know who makes them and its cost ?

The cement shelves will be made by the mason while constructing the house itself. The carpenter then will just make a frame and shutter structure over this. This will work out cheaper, since the carpenters charge lesser for frame and shutter compared to box making.

It is called ferocement. There are people specialized in that and they would come and fit it for you like POP/GYPSUM false ceiling.

Thanks maheshv. :) However, for fear of accumulation of dust I prefer closed wardrobe. For eg., in my present house I have seen that dust accumulates wherever open spaces are there. My open bookshelf needs constant dusting. Dust comes from beds, bedspreads and also from outside. Moreover, my bedrooms are less than 10X10ft. Today a person told me that the cement wardrobes and kitchen shelves are a failure. He said it is very weak and easily breakable. Now, I have to find out cheaper alternatives.

Dear friends,
Can any body share about cement kitchen shelves and cement ward robes? The cost of Rs.85/- per sq ft (inccluding fitting) for cement shelves and Rs.500/- per sq ft for wooden shutters to the cement shelves is reasonable?. The materials used are:
Green Ply 19mm, two sides lamination, stainless steel hinges and handles. Type of work: A wooden frame fitted around the shelf and the shutters are fitted to the wooden frame. Can any body share please?

It is good you can save money and termites free. In my house (rented) I saw termites eating ply wood and powder falls every day on clothes. I did inject anti termite twice but no luck. You can also think of cudappa slabs.
