bathroom height

Post by ranga.be6 »

my contractor has made the bathrooms at a much higher level than the RCC mould(this is for 1st and 2nd floors), he says thats standard way of doing. I thought bathroom and rest of the house area had to be more or less same level with bathroom perhaps being at a bit low level so as to help water flow to drain. Can you people share your opinion?

Hi Ranga,
Bathrooms floors are generally made either sunken or raised .both ways it works and non issue.its all about aesthetics. In either ways drain pipes run in the floor.so any time damage or leak is difficult to rectify in future .

A sunken bathroom would still be preferable due to accessibility for the disabled and old.
If you happen to wash your house with water, it'll be easy to let the water into the bathroom to drain.

As what Praveen mentioned, you need to take care doing moulding of the below floor for getting the bathroom at the same level as your other rooms in the above floor. So during barbending/moulding time, the area where you propose to be the future bathroom should have around 1 feet below your other mouldings. Only then you can have the bathroom of the above floor at the same level

How to leave openings in the beam(for sunken slab) here for sanitary pipe run? How to calculate size and position for leaving openings or can we insert pipe during moulding itself?
Which is the best way?

Minimum 13 inches from the wall to center of opening and opening dia of 6 inches should be good for floor trap. Experienced guys please comment on this.
