What is use of 3D printing technology in civil engineering ?

Interesting question ,

3D printing can be used for any kind of physical prototype development in any industry
that is at the stage where you want to move from drawing to casting / fabrication
or for fabricating parts which are out of production.

In civil engineering it can be applied to the scale model prototype development

Architects till few years ago used lots of cardboard / plywood paper mashie for scale model of projects.
As it was expensive and time consuming this was done mostly in bigger projects.

with CADs and 3D Drawings this has reduced a lot for residential sector however with 3D printing you can
again have a scale model of your house sitting on table before it gets built.

PS: I am not a civil engineer just studied Civil in one semester of 1st year as common subject eons ago.
