To address the problem of space constraint and meet increasing demand for land, Bangalore Development Authority (BDA), through its auditing exercise, is trying to identify vacant plots which can be used for residential or commercial activities.

“I have directed the staff to undertake the auditing of land in Bengaluru city. They have been told to prepare a list of BDA sites and how many of them are vacant. This exercise is being done in all BDA layouts. We want to safeguard our property, fence them and use them appropriately,” said K Venkatesh, BDA chairman.

He said there is a demand for sites and the pressure on vacant land is too high. The agenda of the BDA is to safeguard its property. Later, it will be decided whether to use it for commercial or residential purposes.

Another official said BDA had been requesting all property owners to construct their property on the allotted BDA site, even fence it and maintain it. But it has been noticed that many have not implemented it. So the BDA has now decided to take those properties back. Since these plots have become hubs of illegal activities and complaints from locals around are increasing, this is being done, the official added.

According to BDA’s initial estimates, vacant land is found is most parts of Nagarabhavi, Banashankari, Anajanapura, Mahalakshmi Layout, RMV Extensions, BTM Layout, some blocks around West of Chord Road, areas towards Mysuru Road and Yeshwantpur.

“After the audit is completed and ownership is verified, the BDA will acquire the properties, fence them and put boards stating that the property belongs to the BDA. Big plots will be set aside for commercial use and smaller ones for houses,” the official said.
