Honne wood or Ghana teak

Post by Vimal »

Folks,

For my home construction, I am at a point to buy wood for doors and windows. I have decided earlier to go for Honne wood for frame and shutters. My contractor is suggesting to go for Ghana teak as the price difference between honne and ghana teak woods is not much. Can you guys send your opinion of pros & cons of choosing ghana teak over honne wood & vice versa ?

By the by, I plan to paint the frame and shutter.

Thanks in advance for your response.

Regards
Vimal.

Hi,

If you are going to paint the frame and shutter, just go for plywood with paint/laminate sheet/veneer sheet . which will reduce the cost also.
people use wood to give rich look to the interior space but if you are covering it with paint better to go for plywood and save money.

Hi,
I don't recommend ply for the window shutters.Any artificial wood is not suggested for exterior use.As long as you paint the shutters honne will be the best and cheaper option.Make sure honne is seasoned properly .

Praveen, that brings us to the next logical query - how does one figure out if any wood is seasoned properly or not?

Yes, good question indeed on seasoning. We cannot rely on vendors information.
