Acacia Wood

Post by Vimal »

Folks,

A couple of days ago I went to shop for wood for my home project. I had in my mind to go for either honne or ghana teak wood but came to know there is another variety - acacia wood. As I have plans to paint the wood the vendor recommends acacia wood. If you are aware, can you share your thoughts and opinions on choosing acacia wood over ghana teak or honne ?

Thanks

One of my friend, who is a furniture vendor, had told me once that Accacia is same as the Assam Teak which is used to make very cheap furniture, the ones we see typically in Shivaji Nagar shops. The wood would be OK when used in heavy pieces and it will not bear extreme hot/cold/moisture weather. If you are planning to use it for not-so-long term ( say in the range of 5 years ) it should be OK as its cheap. But for long lasting furniture, its not good.

Thanks for your reply.

Actually, my plan is not to use acacia wood to make furniture. Instead I intend to use it as window frames and shutters.
