Hi Vamsee,

its all about how you perceive. It is not scientifically proven.... there were many studies done and here are some links to get you a clarity:

I am wondering if this plot is properly approved ?

Because as per my knowledge, developers can not make plots for the residential purpose if any high tension elec wires are passing through. They usually marks that area for the parks or something. I came across this kind of projects. So better check before buying.

Hello All,

Thanks for all your replies. They have really helped me in taking a good decision.

This is a DC converted BBMP A Khatha Site which was done long before probably with gram panchayath approval and now under BBMP.

Yesterday I measured the distance from the line to the edge of my site and it was like 10 to 12 feet. (Ground Distance). so aerial distance also might be some where around.

Also I could hear the humming noise. I spoke to some guys with in the layout and they told me not to buy it.

So finally i have called it Off.

thanks a lot to everybody.

Thanks and Regards
Vamsee

Hi adroit

I also face a similar situation few days ago. i was looking at a plot in duo south county and there was high tension wire passing through the layout. However as per BDA approved plan area below the HT line is marked for park. However I did not get a humming noise or any such thing when I was there even below the lines. The plot I was looking at was at a distance of ~45 metres ground wise and probably more than 50 metres aerial so I decided to go ahead. However I dont knw if they are 66kv lines or what. Just thought would share here that even BDA approved layouts can have HT lines passing through.

BDA Approved layouts also have the HT lines passed through them. But they adhere to some kind of rules and regulations. As you said, they planned the Park below the HT lines. Also, they should left sufficient place in terms of the ground distance between the plots and the HT lines.

However in some cases and un-authorised layouts, the plot is either very close to the HT lines in terms of ground distance or the worst case the part of HT line is passed through the plot. These are the serious issues.

Hi guys,

Recently i came across a plot that is around 50 feet(ground distance) from HT lines(i think its 220 kv- it has a board like 2 20 000 Volts written). The total area left is 100 ft where 60ft is left under the HT wires which is marked for Park and 20ft road on either side of the park(60+20+20 =100 ft).

Can we go ahead with such a plot?

In My personal opinion, better not to go with such sites. usually 17 to 20 Mtr Horizontal safe distance is suggested from the 220kv High Tension wires for any construction. Also there are few issues discussed like Transmission Noise, electromagnetic radiation effect & ARCing in adverse environments like Raining or foggy times.

What i saw from BBMP Bye-laws is some 4 or 5 mts(Horizontal) from HT line. But i don't know the real safe distance. So i wanted some guidance. Thanks msn1270 for your reply :) Also i am attaching a snapshot of the site and HT lines to give you more clarity.

My brother had a similar dilemma a few years back. When talked to one of the doctors , he suggested not to go for it , as there are mixed opinions/research papers on electro magnetic radiation effects and hence nothing is conclusive . Why to take a risk for something which is not clear, unless there is a significant benefit (which most of the owners do not offer ) for choosing such a plot . ?

Hi Jackalbda,

You are right. The only tempting thing is the price. The owner is ready to cut down 400 rs psft from the present market value :D
