Mat during Roof concrete
Re: Mat during Roof concrete
Basically it is shortcut method to roughen the concrete surface for bonding( But it is smoothen). the other shortcut is to avoid cement slurry leakage and undulation in shuttering sheet it is hided to nacked eyes. So use ms sheet good sheet. nowadays there is bonding agent which gives technically good result without shortcuts

Hi Moni
Wooden centering is no more available ,very very few maintain them to use in odd size, shapes slabs.
Plastic cover below the mat is like lubricant just in case the rcc slurry settle between centering sheet and mat.

Re: Mat during Roof concrete
Hi,
I also did the mat finish and found it is worth of putting mat before concreting. I bought the mat from Hosur (near bus stop) and that cost me some thing around Rs 1.5 per SQFT. About laying, I didnt paid any money for that as the barbender/Centering person itself did this without any issue.

Re: Mat during Roof concrete
Recently we had used mat for the roof concreting. After removing the centring
plates we are noticing that the mats are sticking to the underside slab like they
are fused into the slab. Is it always like this ? My contractor is saying that removing
will be a tough job.

Excellent find...& one more input....if you are expected to buy the coir ropes @ plastering stage, TN again is THE place, where it costs less.mumah wrote: I bought the mat from Hosur (near bus stop) and that cost me some thing around Rs 1.5 per SQFT. well...what to say, if you hadn't used the mat, the contractor would have happily charged you the extra buck for chipping the concrete, as plain surfaces do not hold the plaster easily. Infact the whole contractor community are the scums of the highest order. They speak what suits them. How to remove the mat??sholla wrote:Recently we had used mat for the roof concreting. 1. Use a spare 8mm/ 10mm rod of 7 feet length. ask the bar bender to sharpen the edge & also make a small curvature at the edge. Stick it into the mat & pull it down. It works. I did the same thing.
2. If it is not so easy, Spray water over the mat. Allow it to soak for 30 mins. Use step 1 to remove it.
3. If step 2 doesn't work, they spray kerosene over the mat & burn it down - Never had this situation !!

@m3_07, you have rightly said. "removing will be tough" sounds like a lame excuse. My contractor is doing this without any issues.

I purchased Centering mat from Hosur. 5 bundles costed me Rs. 1700. (About Rs.1.1 per sq.ft).

Re: Mat during Roof concrete
Guys, Just go to Srinivas nagar where you get these mats and plastic sheets. There are plenty of shops there.
Pay some worker 100/- and get it layed. Laying this is not rocket science. So anyone can do it (with your supervision)
All this will just cost Rs. 1.25 per sft for very good quality mats + plastic sheets.
I have done this and saved 50% of mat cost.
Purpose: Plastic sheet is to ensure that cement doesnt spoil the centering boards.
Mats ensure that it roughens the bottom of concrete which helps in holding plastering cement.
