I have been seeing this forum for quite a some time ( might be 6 to 8 months long) , i wanted to share a method of plot search or House search which yielded benefits for me & 2 of my other friends,
- Every friday of the week we use to go through Free ads & other similar paper
-Systematically go ad by ad in across the paper and call to the person and get the details on the plot
- Evaluate based on our requirements & then go and look at the site physically
Please note you will be interacting with strangers , so be careful! Though for me i didnt have any issues but just quoting for your purpose.
- most of the time preference was given by me for direct owners then RE Agents
- We did this for almost closer to 4 weeks continuos

To my luck i got 2 site's directly from owner, one near to Jakkur for a reasonable rate of 1850 & another in BHEL layout next to BMSIT yelhanka for 1750Rs.Finally based on accessibility we decided to go for one near Jakkur.So here ends my story.

After quite a some time( around 4 months) one of my close friend was searching for a house/plot we contacted the BHEL layout owner and he was willing to sale the site so this went through and my friend got this site.

Next was another close friend was searching for house in and aroung RT Nagar/Ganganagar. On one saturday we took Free Ads & other similar news paper ( i dont remeber the name) and went through the paper, initially we got some houses little far but we went through with open mindset and finally we got a contact with direct owner and to my friends luck this was an independent house just 2 houses next to his Apartment where he is staying currently, this was in Ganganagar and was for 50Lakhs around 12 years old house but was built for self use & of area 950 square feet!!!

In net we got almost 3 properties for reasonable price from direct owners in different areas.

So was really happy with these results and also quite satisfied with Free ads paper & other one!!! It was our luck that we got in touch with direct owners every time! I know this is not a new way but in this world of information we should be ready to spend some effort to look around and we might be lucky to get.Happy searching!!!!

I've been a user of FreeAds too....and learnt quite a few tricks to derive more benefits out of the paper.

1. The newspaper also does its listing online for free. Since this gets updated even before the print edition is out, it's good to check online once (although the print edition is good to keep track of what listings we've gone through). The good & cheap houses, especially those offered for rent, are taken away really quickly and it helps to read the listing early.
2. Although the newspaper would like to segregate individual lists and RE agent listings separately, it doesn't work so well (the agents offer ads using their personal name). The listings from the owners usually are lost out amongst the numerous listings from agents/brokers, so one has to filter them out. One can differentiate between them using the following methods (as in any case, these tips would work most of the time but not always :-)):
- An ad from an agent would usually contain multiple phone numbers (e.g. two cellphone numbers as opposed to a cellphone + landline number provided by the owner).
- Similarly they will also list multiple specifications for a house in a locality. For e.g. 2/3/4BHK houses available for rent in Jayanagar, etc. or 20x30, 30x40 sites available in Anjanapura. Ads like these, are clearly not from an owner.
- Ads from owners will usually be more descriptive about the property (probably due to the emotional connection with their asset). For e.g. "2BHK will spacious hall, borewell water,....." in lieu of just a "2BHK house at Jayanagar". In case of plots, the ad can read anything like "40x60 plot, close to abc main road" and so on. Remember that the newspaper would have edited the description from the ad provider due to space constraints, so use this trick with discretion.
- Certain phone numbers would repeat across various listings, say, same contact phone number for an apartment and a plot sale. Similarly, if you've followed the listings, you'd notice that certain names/numbers would repeat for a few weeks. These would mostly belong to RE agents.
