Solar water heater size and other constraints

Post by sholla »

I am now making provisions for hosting a solar water heater
on terrace. I have some queries in this regard..

- what is the approx. size (LxWxH) required for a typical solar heater
for a family of 4 ?

- Is there any minimum height required between the water tank and
the solar heater ?

I will be having a small terrace and I would like to keep it as much
uncluttered as possible.

thanks

Minimum preferable height would be 7 feet from the overhead tank to the solar tank.

The size depends on the model that you choose. for the family of 4, anything between 200 LPD to 250 LPD should suffice. This again depends on the utility of the hot water besides bathing purposes.

For a family size of 4, 100 to 150 ltr capacity is reasonable. By thumb rule, one solar panel supports up to 100 ltrs.
For 150 ltr capacity, few brands suggest single panel is enough, whereas some suggests 2 panels for better performance.

Each solar panel size is app 6.6 X 3.4 X 0.3 ft(79 X 40 X 3.9 inches). Hot water Collection tank size is additional to this length.
On an average you need a length of 10 ft minimum space.

Also there should not be any trees, high rise buildings nearby this installation for better performance.

Over head tank height must always be at least 2-3 ft above the height of the Hot water collection tank.
